I have a question about this helper method.  If selected objects are not at the root, are their matrices updated to reflect their proper transforms (global matrix) in the new document?

    Thanks!

    Hi Robert,

couldn't you just make a short try? Although I didn't, I'm pretty sure that their position is adjusted
properly. Would be pretty much of a bummer if not. Another thing that interests me is that if solely
the objects in the AtomArray are copied, or are their child objects included?

That other interest includes me as well.  There is no 'children' flag so it is unclear as to whether children are included by default or not.  Well, I will be making a test of this soon to see the results.  The test document will have various scenarios to see how each is handled.
