Just for the sake of usability I'd like to create a few classes that just wrap the standard Polygon.
Of course this shouldn't cost the functionality of the original objects. I also would need an option to convert existing Polygon objects into that custom class.
Is that out of scope or would you see better alternatives?

I don't think this will work. What you probably have to do is create a wrapper class with an internal pointer to a polygon object (I suppose you are talking about the PolygonObject class).
