Could someone please tell me if this is standard behaviour or if there is a need for a setting or check somewhere in order to allow polygonal mesh editing (no point/edge/poly selections take place) when there is a set of hierarchy modifier objects (plugin bones) underneath it (even disabling them has no effect)?

If the modifiers are moved from underneath, the mesh points/edges/polys are then selectable and editable. Replacing them underneath retains the edits.

Expedience, please, as I'm deep in beta-testing (!!!! - is there a limit?)... ;o)

Thank you very much,

After trying a standard rigged mesh, it appears to be standard behavior.

Thanks,
