    I just want to make sure I'm not missing something basic:

    CONTAINERS:
    res/description/*.res files declare themselves as CONTAINER. The UI defined here appears in the 'Attribs' panel when corresponding object/tag/etc is selected.
    The format is documented in the API docs on page
    doc_DescriptionResou235.html
    A checkbox is done like this:
    BOOL ELEMENTLABEL { }

    DIALOGS:
    res/dialogs/*.res files declare themselves as DIALOG.
    The UI defined here appears in the 'Active' panel when the correspoinding tool is selected.
    Resedit only generates DIALOGs.
    A checkbox is done like this:
    CHECKBOX ELEMENTLABEL { }

    Now, unless I'm missing something, this means that there are two different, similar, but incompatible formats to do essentially the same job depending upon whether it's a UI for a tool or for an object.

    Is this correct?

    Cheers - Steve

    That´s partly true. Since R9 Tools can use Description resources too. In R8 you need to use dialog resources (check out ResEdit here on plugincafe to speed up your dialog creation. It´s a must!)
