--------- A few days ago I asked in the c4d-forum.de if it is possible to create references to objects in other files. The answer was no.
I was thinking now about the problem and my Question is:
Can a Plugin open a c4d-file (invisible to the user), copy an object from that c4d-file into the current scene where plugin-object is placed (like the instance-object) and close the c4d-file? - I haven't found a function to open a c4dfile, so I am in doubt if this is possible - if yes, this would be a simple, small but very usefull plugin I think...

It's possible but not trivial, especially not in C.O.F.F.E.E. The are some complicated issues involved, for example mixing of materials and animation, caching, speed. I think this is the reason that no one has written this seemingly trivial plugin. There's no way to open a document in C.O.F.F.E.E. behind the back of the user, like LoadDocument() in C++, so that is the first obstacle. I don't think there's any elegant way around that.
