--------- My goal is to access information from a model (Like the name and position of component) to be processed, then to be pass info back to the model to change it, changing texture, adding lines etc. Finally I would like to produce a single frame render of that modified model without saving the changes. Am I asking too much? I think this would be possible with Maya and MEL, but way outside of budget. Thanks in advance for anything you could tell me.

That requires the C++ SDK. (Since neither C.O.F.F.E.E. nor Xpresso can trigger the rendering.) Whether this is too much of course depends on how much C++ you know and how much of the SDK you are willing to learn.
