C4D in VirtualBox... no viewport displayed

  • Hello,

as a Mac user, I installed VirtualBox and created a Windows 10 guest system to be able to build my plugins for Windows.

R20 works fine in the guest system, but R21 and S22 report missing OpenCL libraries. The viewport does not draw, it just stays black. I can build my plugins, but I can't test if they even work.

Is there anything I can do to make it work (starting Cinema with CTRL+SHIFT pressed didn't help)?

    Cheers,
    Frank

  • Hi Frank, thanks for reaching out us.

I don't use Virtualbox but I do use VMWare Fusion and here I confirm that R21 and further have no issues on being properly displayed.

The issue in your case could be tracked down to the supported OpenGL extensions found in your virtualized environment. Since R21 Cinema requires OpenGL 4.1 or greater and maybe the emulated OpenGL subsystem in VirtualBox only support 3.x.

Using any openGL utility out on the web could help you figure out what are the supported extensions in your VirtualBox.

    Cheers,

  • I guess VirtualBox is just not a good choice then. Damn. But thanks for the answer!

    Cheers,
