--------- How do I retrieve a specific parameter description from an arbitrary data id. For instance I have a data id for the scaling of a function in an object. It is a vector. I want to find out if the AM is displaying it as a vector or as subcomponents ( the vector components listed vertically in the AM ). I have reviewed the documentation and I am still confused. Please help.

You have to use Atom::GetDescription() and check with Description::GetParameter() if DESC_CUSTOMGUI is set to CUSTOMGUI_SUBDESCRIPTION. Note that there's no Atom::SetDescription, so you won't be able to change this state. (Only the object can do this, by providing a new description in NodeData::GetDDescription().
