I'd like to send a custom message from the CustomUI of a datatype to the owner NodeData's Message function, similar to how a button can broadcast a MSG_DESCRIPTION_COMMAND. Is that possible?

About MSG_DESCRIPTION_COMMAND, this message is broadcast by the DescriptionCustomGui and this can be done only from Cinema 4D's internal code.
We're already aware of this limitation and this will change in the future.
